SCS SB 288 -- LOST PROPERTY

SPONSOR:  Dolan (Davis, 19)

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Local Government by a vote of 16 to 0.

This substitute changes the time for the owner of lost property
to prove ownership from one year to 180 days after publication in
a newspaper.  The substitute also modifies the publication
process.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that the substitute will increase the
efficiency of local governments.  A sheriff will be able to
dispose of property more quickly.

Testifying for the bill was Senator Dolan.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
